DAVID MACK LOVES TRACING PAPER

I was checking out some preview pages for NEW AVENGERS #39 with guest penciller DAVID MACK. Some of his panels looked really familiar... and not like his art at all....

Then it hit me that the Daredevil figure was a COPY of Alex Maleev art... from the same series (DD #41, 2003)!!! Even sadder, the cover image used for DD#41 is being used for the upcoming Daredevil Bendis/Maleev Omnibus, due in stores this june! I mean, the swiped art is fresh in fans' minds for crying out loud!
He even copied the building in the background!!!

And the ECHO character looked odd, too.... couldn't put my finger on it and then someone pointed out its a copy of ADAM HUGHES' Rainmaker from his "GEN13: Ordinary Heroes" mini-series back in 1998!!!
Jeez, Mack.

unfortunately he's not the only one doing this, and passing it off as a career. theres a few of them up to it.

check out his other "original" work, his children's book, which oddly enough looks exactly like a DR. SEUSS book:

He's not a great writer either.
Well judging by his writing on Daredevil anyway...

I have to weigh in for David Mack. His original artwork is incredible, and I think his Kabuki series and an Echo New Avengers story he did were like nothing else in the industry. He breaks the boxes and panels and tells an amazing story in his own style. I'm not defending swipes in the cases mentioned, but I don't think I can deny his artistic talents as a painter and storyteller.

That's the kicker - Mack has lots of talent. Tracing and Swiping is beneath him and his abilities, IMO.

I'm for David. Honestly. I've met the guy, cosplayed his costumes and i truly love his art. yes, stealing is awful and beneath him, but its really not that big of a deal. artist have been doing it since the dawn of art and wont stop either, no matter how talented. why fuss over something so unimportant when there are things that actually AFFECT us?

by the way, shy creatures is SUPPOSED to have the dr. suess look because of the remnicent child's story book feel. and if any of you had read Kabuki, i think you'd change your mind about his story telling capabilities. not many actually get through a whole volume but it is, at the least, good.

he is not stealing art, we have had these exact same poses used in more comics than sense the 2 images shown are classic dare devil poses we see time and time again, as in you cant say he stole it if is obvious it has been redone by over a dozen artists previously, if he is asked to do the art that way he does it that way, other poses are common poses shown in many comics and artbooks so asking for him to come up with an original pose, and an original style of a character not of his own creation is madness

The examples posted are clearly traced, in some cases down to individual unique line work.

mimicking a pose, and TRACING are two completely different things. please do not defend this. it's basically plagiarism. your not taking a picture and using it for reference, or inspiration,.you are COPYING it. STEALING someone elses work. PLEASE make the distinction ..... he's supposed to be a PROFESSIONAL. not a high school kid learning to draw his favorite pics.
-sorry there's no defending this.
( defending this is like listening to Vanilla Ice saying he didn't rip off Queen and Bowie )

All i can say is "This is why we can't have nice things" .... (after the fall of the comic book industry to the far east that is..)
