RIDLEY SCOTT TO DIRECT ALIEN PREQUEL

Previously it was announced that the thought-to-be green-lit ALIEN PREQUEL was to be produced by Ridley & Tony Scott, with commercial director CARL ERIK RINSCH to direct. But then I heard FOX was not going to green light it unless RIDLEY was in the director's chair.

And so it is - Ridley Scott will direct the Alien Prequel. (via Variety)

This gives me some hope, although I'm still very cautious....

In previous interviews, Ridley has said he'd been toying with the idea that the Aliens are not of the Natural Order of the Universe, but instead are organic weapons created by other Species. I really hate this approach as I've always loved the theme of "Nature vs Technology". The idea that the Aliens are merely natural creatures in the universe really appealed to me and helped make me the ridiculous fan I am today.

Here are some things I do NOT want to see in the Prequel:

* Any mention of Weyland, Yutani, or Weyland-Yutani..... unless its at the very very end where we see the Company pick up the Derelict's "distress" signal.

* Any mention of the "Ripley Family". I can see it now - Ellen Ripley's grandmother first encountered the aliens and its now a family curse.

* Any humans. The Nostromo Crew should be the first human encounter with the Aliens. It's been that way for 30+ years, don't start retconning shit now.

* Any Space Jockeys acting in any sort of readily identifiable pop culture way (watching TV, playing a video game, etc)

* Any link to the 2 abysmal AVP movies - which do not exist in the true mythos of ALIEN.

Of course I ask for the impossible.
But atleast its Ridley Scott....

REMEMBER WHEN DAREDEVIL WAS LIKEABLE?

Since its relaunch in 1998, DAREDEVIL has been a solid book every month. That's a pretty good era for a book - 11 years! But looking back, I've realized that I really don't like MATT MURDOCK anymore. While the book is a good read and entertaining, I'm beginning to grow tired of Murdock's self-destructive douchebaggery. I remember when I used LIKE the character. Kevin Smith, David Mack, Bendis and Ed Brubaker have done a great job these past 11 years, but I'm hoping new oncoming writer ANDY DIGGLE can make Murdock a character I give a shit about once again.

3 REMAKE/PREQUEL NEWS THAT MADE MY HEAD EXPLODE TODAY

THE SECRET OF NIMH
Remake will be live action with cg characters.
Add this to the "completely unnecessary" pile.
---
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
No way this remake can be as funny as the original.
Seriously? They're remaking this? Bah.
---
KONG OF SKULL ISLAND
This one's a prequel, spotlighting Kong's many adventures
before the events of "King Kong".

If its 120 min of just Kong fighting giant creatures,
no dialogue, it could be fun.
But if there's a single goddamn Westerner....grrr

DARK KNIGHT CYCLEWEAR

Yep, they are making full motorcycle riding gear, replicating Batman's threads based on "The Dark Knight". Dunno if they will also be making helmets with bat-ears.

JIMPRAISE!

I've seen an increase of hate mail lately, which is always lovely. One of the many common attacks is that I'm "always negative" and "bash everything". While yes I do smash things from time to time - it is called JimSMASH, not JimPRAISE - I feel most of the posting I do is geeking out on things I LIKE. But who am I to argue with faithful, albeit hateful, readers?!

So I thought I'd add some interactive fun: for 1 week, I will do a post a day that lists only GOOD things about whatever YOU CHOOSE! Want me to do "Top Good Things of AVP"? Your wish is my command. Post your choices in the Comment area of this post and/or email me (jimsmash@gmail.com). I will then JimPraise the 5 most requested! Let's hear em, ya freakin jackals!

POWER GIRL STATUE

This is a the latest POWER GIRL statue from DC Direct. If I was a huge Power Girl fan... and one to buy such a statue, I'd get this. But I'm not either, really.... atleast, not enough to shell out the $100 for it. Nonetheless, its probably the best Power Girl I've seen so far.

COMIC GLASSES

Toon Tumblers are making comic pint glasses like yesteryear! Most of them are Marvel, but there are some DC in there, too. What I like most about these is that [most of] the images are from the 60s-80s (none of that 90s-now crap). I'm definitely going to pick some up. They will go nicely with the vintage glasses I still have (& use!) from my youth; Star Wars movies & Superman. And will look great filled with blue beverages from the previous post!

RANDON FIND: SITH SQUIRREL

NEWS OF THE DAY: NAKED TERMINATOR

A man found naked at a casino claimed he was a Terminator sent from the future.

19-year-old Sean Stanley Smith was arrested on the Nevada border after he was spotted by a motorist wandering around the highway nude. He was ordered by police to stop but proceeded into a nearby casino - where he was then tasered in front of a group of children.

Smith claims he was a Terminator sent back in time from the future - a reference to the film character made popular by Arnold Schwarznegger in the sci-fi franchise. The films usually start with a naked man being transported to the past.

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator but was in fact suffering from the effects of LSD and marijuana. He was charged with indecent exposure and resisting a police officer. (article)

Nice.

Which leads us to CollegeHumor explaining
why Terminators time-travel naked:

and just for the hell of it, an awesome screenshot from
the 1st Terminator (my favorite):sweet.

BOLLYWOOD HE-MAN

Someone repost this but with some classic Queen!

*Clip swiped from Scott King's site.

RYAN REYNOLDS IS GREEN LANTERN

Apparently RYAN REYNOLDS has been cast as GREEN LANTERN.

Good grief, do they even READ the comics? (no). Reynolds is no where NEAR right for the part of Hal Jordan. At all.

Ryan Reynolds was born to play 2 parts: Deadpool and WALLY WEST FLASH. Reynolds is completely wrong for the part. It's like having Christopher Reeve play Batman.

Last week it was reported the casting choices were down to three: Reynolds, Bradley Cooper & Justin Timberlake. Of those 3, I would have gone with Cooper. But all 3 are bad choices for Hal.

This casting makes me sad.

*seriously, Justin Timberlake???
