PRIDE & PREDATOR

JimSmash Reader "Dino" sent this in and it made laugh out loud.

6 SIGNIFICANT YEARS OF THE FUTURE

When I was a kid, there were 6 significant years of the Future:
1984
George Orwell's scary vision of the future which sadly is coming true with each passing year and generation. Wheeee!
---
---
1987
This is the year BUCK ROGERS launched into space, accidentally frozen for 504 years, and then revived in the 25th Century where he becomes the Galactic Uber-Hero and bangs the super foxy Erin Gray.
---
*extra bonus: the 1990s
At some point in the 1990s, during the "Eugenics Wars", the space craft "SS Botany Bay" is launched carrying 84 passengers, the most dangerous being Khan Noonien Singh.
---
1999
Before the 2000 New Year's global party crazy kicked in (driving this song into the ground) it was THE theme song for the inevitable doomsday party in purple.
---
2001
The crazy future that will blow your mind upon viewing. 2001 became "the year of the Future" with this great movie.
---
2010
If 2001 was the Year of the Future, then 2010 was the Future's Future; Terrifying and barely imaginable. Now here we are. Where do we go from here? Oh, that's right....
---
2012
The end of the world!

STAR TREK WETSUITS

Two Worlds Collide!
I mean Trekkies and Surfers are almost indistinguishable.
I do enjoy the mental imagery of these suits out on the waves...
(but you know the Red Suit Surfer will logically be eaten by a shark).

LADRONN'S GREEN ARROW COVERS

For the past 16+ issues, LADRONN has been providing the cover art for GREEN ARROW/BLACK CANARY. If only he was doing the interior art, I might have actually been buying the book. His Fantastic Four/Inhumans was pretty sweet, too. He should be the rotating Fantastic Four artist along with current artist Dale Eagelsham (pick up FF #570-572). Or I'd love see Ladronn do a NEW GODS series. Here's some sample art:
and here are his HULK covers for "Planet Hulk":Man, I wish he had done the interiors for that storyline.

*I typed "Ladroon" 3 times when assembling this post.

RIPLEY'S REEBOKS

Sweet treads!

Yep, that's right - Reebok paid to have Sigourney Weaver wear a special pair of shoes made specifically for the movie. I never even noticed they were Reeboks in the film, which is a good thing. Apparently they were also made available for sale in very limited quantities in a promo-type thing. Sadly, I do not own a pair myself.

STORAGE SPACE FILLED

Well, it took about 3 years, but I've finally hit my Picassa storage space quota for images. So I've had to purchase extra storage space in order for JimSmash to continue forward. Small price to pay when I gaze upon my ever-growing insane shelf of Aliens novelizations!

KOTOBUKIYA CAPTAIN AMERICA

Check out this new snap-kit model from Kotobukiya. I really like this version of Cap. One of the things that always "bugged" me about Cap's design were his boots, but here with some slight redesign tweaking, it totally works. That with the "John Cassaday chainmail" top and I find myself wanting to own this model.

I THINK the Captain America movie is to be a "period piece" set in WWII... if so, hopefully Cap will look like the Bryan Hitch Ultimate WWII Captain America design:Then, at the end of the movie have Cap go into the ice.... to be found by the Avengers, decades later, in the Avengers movie opening. Steve Rogers wakes up in a new, strange era - the era of Superheroes - and dons the above [Kotobukiya] costume (but NOT the espn Ultimate "modern" costume). Would be cool....

DOUG BLOODWORTH

JimSmash Reader "Nick" pointed me to Doug Bloodworth's sweet illustrations that included the above. My favorite is the Hulk/Cheetos for several reasons, one being it makes me think of Hulk with 'Cheeto Fingers' which makes me laugh. It's a tempting $100. Also, "Bloodworth" is an awesome last name.

*thanks, Nick!

STAR WARS GANGSTA RAP

UNCANNY COLLECTION "COMPLETE"

YES!!!
I now own X-MEN #100!!!!!

This means I have every issue from GIANT SIZE #1, X-MEN #94-499!!!
So now I own every Chris Claremont issue and those X-Men which feature the Bronze & Modern Age X-Men; Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, etc. [In comic book nerd voice:] I think fellow X-Men fans should understand the significance of this "achievement".

I stopped the X-Collection at #499 because with issue 500 Greg Land became the regular artist (along with rotating Terry Dodson). To be fair, its not ALL Land's fault... I cannot stomach Matt Fraction's X-Men writing either. So, with Land's arrival, I sadly stopped collecting & reading Uncanny X-Men. The line was drawn and crossed.

Looking over my collection I realize that Uncanny X-Men has SUCKED for the past 12 years... I think I will end the collection with Uncanny #350 and ditch #351-499....

Anyway, ever since I was 13 years old, I've been on a mission to own all the X-Men from Giant Size #1, [Uncanny] 94 and up! Mission accomplished! Yay!

Now I'm onto filling those remaining holes of X-Men #1-93....

*thank you, Maker!!!!!!

ALIENS VS PREDATOR GAME TRAILER: STORY

Kickass, man. Why couldn't the crappy AVP movies been more like this? And is that Lance Henriksen's voice? Weird because just this morning, on my way into Work, I was thinking about how he's kinda "self-attached" himself as the new "Alien Guy" to the series... he was in ALIENS, ALIEN 3 and AVP. Kinda like how Michael Gross tried to "take over" the Tremor series. Plus Henriksen made those Alien tiles a year or so back. Which is how I began thinking about him & the series this morning in the first place - "It would be sweet to make some custom designed Alien bathroom tiles for the shower.... didn't Lance Henriksen...."

*thanks, pacimage!

UNDERWHELMED: MARCH 2010 COMICS

I just looked at DC & Marvel's MARCH 2010 Solicitations and was very underwhelmed, although my wallet giggled with joy.

DC COMICS:
I used to buy a lot of DC books. Now I'm just going to buy GREEN LANTERN, GREEN LANTERN CORPS and BLACKEST NIGHT. They are all linked together in Geoff Johns' epic GL tale. It seems like everything since GL:Rebirth has been leading up to this event. Once it concludes, where will the GL Corner go? Will Johns stay onboard? It may be a good place to jump ship, we'll see.

The only other book that somewhat interests me is Rucka & Williams' DETECTIVE COMICS currently starring BATWOMAN. The art is gorgeous. But today I read their Detective run will soon come to an end, with Batwoman debuting in her own series. The art is the main draw and looks mighty good in collected form. I think I may just pick this up as hardcover editions are released.

That's it. No Superman titles, No Batman or Bat-Family titles, No Wonder Woman, No Flash, No Green Arrow, no JLA.... The current DCU has little-to-no appeal for me right now and it makes me sad.
-------------------

MARVEL COMICS:
I used to buy a lot of Marvel books. A LOT. Currently these are the only books I'm going pick up in March: X-FORCE and FANTASTIC FOUR (thank you Hickman & Eaglesham).

I may also pick up WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #11 only because its a DEATHLOK (sweet!) Guest-Star story with RON GARNEY art (I dig his Wolverine).

The March solicits do not include DAREDEVIL, which reads better in collected form anyway. CAPTAIN AMERICA also reads better in trade (same writer) and now includes a backup story of Liefeld's atrocious Heroes Reborn Bucky Girl. I'm dropping this book because of that and will pick up just the Cap stuff in trade later.

X-FACTOR and INVINCIBLE IRON MAN are read better in collected form, too (see a pattern forming?) - so I'm switching to "wait for the trade" with those as well.

The latest Event for Marvel (there's a new one every 4 months nowadays) is SEIGE, which looks to be the finale to Bendis' overall story he's been telling across Marvel for years. I'll pick it up in trade.

That's it. No Uncanny X-Men, No Wolverine, No other X-Books, No Spider-Man, No Avengers, No Punisher, No Hulk, No Thor, No Cosmic Stuff.... and those I AM interested in, are written in a more trade-friendly read.

No wonder I haven't set foot in a comic book store in over 3 months.

(Oh, and by the way, DEADPOOL has FIVE fucking titles out. Really???)
