via Rock Cellar Magazine:
Vera Farmiga, the Oscar and Emmy-nominated actor known for memorable performances in Up in the Air and The Conjuring series of horror films alongside Patrick Wilson (among many other roles) has a new band: The Yagas.
Taking their name from the Slavic folklore witch Baba Yaga, the band’s debut music video for “The Crying Room”:
A notably moody and atmospheric bit of alternative rock, the video was filmed in the lush greenery of upstate New York and co-stars Farmiga and Eugene Hütz (of the band Gogol Bordello) and honors the struggles of the Ukrainian people — as Vera and Eugene are both of Ukrainian heritage, per a news release.
Said Vera Farmiga in a statement about the song:
“’The Crying Room’ is about release and relief. It’s about crying your heart clean. It’s a song that was filmed during and in the aftermath of an eclipse, and is about the eclipse of our soul. Eclipses have potent effects on our psychology. They are energetic portals that trigger epiphanies and outpouring of emotion. They help us shift. Humans are capable of getting stuck in our shadows from time to time. It’s in this balancing of the shadow and light, one literally eclipsing the other, that we have an opportunity to look deep into our hearts and what is going on internally and bring that into the light, no matter how dark it is.”
This powerful introductory statement from The Yagas hints at more to come in 2025. The band, which also features Renn Hawkey of Deadsy (keys), Jason Bowman (drums), Mark Visconti (guitar) and Mike Davis (bass) — has a full-length album due out next year, mixed by Grammy nominee Bryan Virtue (Deftones, 30 Seconds to Mars) and mastered by Grammy winner Emily Lazar (Beck, Coldplay).
* Sadly, Trump has been re-elected and said he plans to not only lift all sanctions against Russia, but will let Putin "do whatever he wants" to Ukraine and neighboring European allies.
