Originally planned to be finished in 2007 for the Star Wars 30th Anniversary, this edit went uncompleted for years. Now with Episode VII coming out, it had seemed pointless to finish. But in honor of the great, late Don Lafontaine donlafontaine.com/ who provided an AMAZING voice over, I had to get this out there even though it’s a bit rough around the edges. I could not let “THE VOICE” go unheard. Many thanks to the creators of original fan film works who provided footage for this edit.
…and while I love the EU, I eagerly look forward to EPVII. I think they have the best of the best in place on it.

What Expanded Universe thing are you going to miss the most Jim?
Me? It will be the first and original "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" game. It combined everything I loved about Star Wars, and nothing that I hated. Plus, it had Juhani and she's important for a lot of reasons most would not like to speak openly about. Darn fools.
I don't think I'll *miss* anything... I never thought of the Expanded Universe as anything but licensed fan fiction. I need to find the interview, but I remember back in the 90s George Lucas stating that none of the EU was canon... except for "Shadows of the Empire", I believe. So for me nothing changes - the "fan fiction" still remains where it's always existed: outside the official SW canon.
But my favorites were the Knights of the Old Republic game, like you mentioned. And The Old Republic - those cinematics were awesome!
I also like Timothy Zahn's Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Dark Horse's "Dark Empire" was awesome, too.
But for the most part, I was never a big fan of the Expanded Universe, especially "the further adventures of Luke & Gang"
I've never been one to discriminate towards official tie-ins, spinoff or expanded universe products as fan fiction. Stories are stories and they are all fictitious. Having read a few myself, I can honestly say I would sooner read these works than most other people's studio mandated scripts. Would you call Nicholas Meyer's book "The Seven Percent Solution", a story about Sherlock Holmes working with Sigmund Freud fan fiction? By that description it certainly sounds like something a fan would write about today.
A lot of stories the expanded universe material I've experienced do a pretty good job at, well, expanding the universe. Last thing I would want in a large and diverse universe is for it to tell me that the only thing that matters is Little Annie. Do you really want to say that's all this series has to offer, even if he does become Darth Vader? The X-Wing and Tie-Fighter games played a huge part in understanding how both the Rebellion and the Empire operated and the Knights of the Old Republic feature characters that are much richer than ones from the original movies. That twist with Darth Malek is still one of the best story twists in Star Wars, even counting Darth Vader's "I am your father".
But I still see where you're coming from, and there are official products that do come off like a fan wrote it. I always thought "The Force Unleashed" series was nothing but a fan writing himself into Star Wars and giving himself "GOD MODE" since his Force abilities completely trump that of anything we've seen in Star Wars ever.
I apologize, I wrote quickly and did not choose the best words. I was in no way using "fan fiction" in a negative light.
My point being was it was always my understand, based on previous Lucas interviews, that the SW EU stuff was not canon. So I mentally separated them from the Films' continuity.
If there's one person who's word I have taken less and less seriously over the years of Star Wars, it's Lucas himself. The man certainly created Star Wars and was responsible for a lot of the things we like, but let's be honest. A lot of what he says is complete nonsense.
Are we really going to believe that he personally altered/destroyed the original camera negatives to the original movies so he could declare to the whole world that the original masters "No longer exist" and that the laser disc copies are all that's left?
The only thing important about Juhani is ensuring that no other characters like her ooze into the canon.
