MARC SILVESTRI SHARES TOUCHING STORY
via facebook:
As
most of you know, last weekend I attended the Niagara Falls Comic Con
and the entire experience was slathered in gobs of gooey awesomeness!
Now that I've been back in LA for a few days I thought I'd share with
you something that happened there that pretty much sums up why I love
comic books, and the community that has sprung from them.
I was in the groove of signing comics for a lot of terrific
fans when a smiling woman of about 50 walked up with three X-Men books
in her hands for me to autograph. We talked a bit (I try to chat with
fans as much as possible because well, it's fun!) I was curious why she
had picked those particular issues and she told me that the books in
fact belonged to her husband and that she brought them to the show for
me to sign. This is a pretty common thing and I thanked her for being
such and awesome wife for waiting in line and doing that for her hubby. I
asked her if she wanted to come around and take a photo with me (again,
pretty common) and with freshly signed comics in hand she came around
the table and we took a great pic. And then came the reminder of why I
love comics and the people that read them...
I thanked her
again for waiting in line and told her to say hi to her husband for me.
She smiled, leaned in close so no one else could hear, and told me that
her husband had died 15 years ago and that these were his favorite
comics. He had never gotten the chance to have them signed himself so 15
years later, she got them signed for him. I gave her a hug and thanked
her. There were others in line waiting for a signature but I sat quite
for about 5 minutes after she left. I will remember that moment and be
grateful for it for the rest of my life.

BEWARE THE BATMAN
Looks and feels cheap... unintentionally so. I'll hold final judgement until after I've seen the show.
SUPER7 ALIEN EXCLUSIVES - SDCC 2013
SUPER7 ANNOUNCES SDCC EXCLUSIVES
ALIEN REACTION FIGURES!
In 1979, prototypes for 3 ¾” action figures for the ALIEN film were developed but never manufactured. Through our network of industry and collector contacts, Super7 has unearthed reference material and original 34-year-old prototypes and will now make these “lost toys” a reality.
Under authorization from 20th Century Fox, Super7 will produce the full series of ALIEN toys as part of our ReAction Figure Series (Retro-Action). Each is stylized exactly as items from the “golden age” of action figures with approximately five points of articulation, accessories, and period-authentic blister card packaging.
Super7 will offer FOUR different ALIEN ReAction Figure exclusives at San Diego Comic Con!
Read on for details of each exclusive, and CLICK HERE for even more photos of the ALIEN toys

SDCC EXCLUSIVE #2
Super7 tracked down a retired toy sales representative who had
a storage unit filled with old catalogs and toys from the
1970s, including a most amazing find: cases of “ALIEN SALES
SAMPLES” designated for 1979’s Toy Fair! Each package contains
two figures - the ALIEN (Big Chap) and KANE (in Nostromo Space
Suit) - in unpainted “test shot” blue plastic. These samples
were intended for distribution to wholesale buyers looking for
the “next big space movie” product in the 3 ¾” scale.
Ultimately, the line was cancelled –as shown by the large red
stamp on the box and enclosed letter to the sales staff - and
these samples never were taken to the trade show.
Okay, full disclaimer: These two-packs are brand new and we are joking about “discovering” them. As far as we have been able to ascertain, ALIEN figures were never displayed at any toy show or event, which made us wonder what really happened behind the scenes. Taking that curiosity further, we decided to create “the sales samples that never existed” and turn it into fun collectible - and a great way to kick off the ReAction Figure series!
Super7 will bring a limited quantity of the “Discovered Sales Samples” to San Diego Comic Con! This will be the first opportunity for collectors to own the ALIEN and KANE in ReAction Figure format – five points of articulation, extendable inner jaws, removable clear dome, removable clear space helmet. Each two-pack in “cancelled” packaging (including the sales staff letter) retails for only $40.00.

SDCC EXCLUSIVE #3
Classic 3 ¾” figures are known to have holes in the heel of
the toy, and ReAction Figures will keep that tradition alive!
And if there is a hole in the foot, there needs to be a peg
somewhere to connect....
Super7 has created an Exclusive Base in the shape of the ALIEN ReAction Figure logo complete with said peg. These bases will fit the upcoming ALIEN ReAction Figures as well as most vintage 3 ¾” scale toys. Visit the Super7 booth, sign up for our mailing list, and you will receive a Figure Base for FREE!

'STAR WARS' DUBBED IN NAVAJO - MUST OWN
via NPR:
If you've ever wondered how to say "May the Force be with you" in Navajo, you're in luck. On July 3, a new translation of Star Wars will be unveiled on the Navajo Nation reservation in Arizona. The 1977 classic has been translated into many languages, and the latest effort is the brainchild of Manuelito Wheeler, director of the in Window Rock, Ariz.
"We needed a way to preserve our culture," Wheeler tells NPR's Robert Siegel. "Language is at the core of a culture. And I felt we needed a more contemporary way to reach not just young people but the population in general. And so, that's when the idea of translating a major movie into the Navajo language came up."
"I'm not fluent in Navajo. I grew up on the Navajo Nation, around the Navajo language; both my parents speak Navajo, yet I don't. And there are thousands and thousands of us out there that are in that same situation. So, when you watch a movie like Star Wars where you pretty much already know many of the famous phrases from it and then you hear it in Navajo, that's the connection right there."
On the descriptive nature of the Navajo language
"We had a team of five translators and in my mind they pulled off a miracle. You know, there was some talk out there ... like, 'How are you gonna say robot because there's no word for robot in Navajo?' It's such a powerful language, that it's very descriptive, very descriptive. If you ask for an object in Navajo you will know you'll be getting a round object, you'll be getting a skinny, soft object, you'll be getting a flat rigid object. So, the trick was choosing from the variety of definitions that the group came up with. So for example: 'robot.' It's a thinking machine; a machine that thinks for itself."
On the upcoming premiere
"The premiere sponsor that came forward was Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation. They do that Navajo Nation Fair and the Fourth of July fair. So, I will premiere it at the Fourth of July celebration on July 3. We have a grandstand there on the fairgrounds and we are having a screen built on a semi-flatbed trailer. So, when we're ready we'll drive that out and set up chairs ... and have popcorn for as many as we can make popcorn for."
On how to say 'May the Force be with you' in Navajo
"That's been the No. 1 question being asked of me since I started this project. But we're not going to give out that famous phrase. Come to the movie on July 3 and you'll find out. I'll save you a seat right up front, so come over."
