Here's the first image of the new SUPERMAN in Zack Snyder's upcoming film. (source)

Ya know.... with that hair, the image kind of reminds me of the 1978 Audition footage... when they had [producer] Ilya Salkind's wife's dentist, DON VOYNE, audtion for the role:
On a side note, io9 did a quick interview with Cavill and asked about what Superman comics he's reading to prepare for the role... his answers are troublesome:
'Red Son' excluded, those are not... ideal... Superman stories that show a good example of who the character is, IMO.What comic books did you read to prepare for this character? For Superman?
I read as much as I possibly could, so yeah, I mean I just got the DC Comics app, downloaded as much as I could, got as many of the comic books sent to me in the mail as I could, and just immersed myself in the character as much as possible.
Were there any few authors that you loved the best?
You're going to catch me out on the authors, I'm afraid. I did love Superman: DoomsdayThe Death of Superman, Superman Returns, The New Krypton Saga especially, Red Son. Red Son was cool because it had the alternate story line. A lot of them I love, but recently, the one I read most recently was The New Krypton Saga, and I really enjoyed that.
Recommended Superman Reading for Mr. Cavill:
Superman: For All Seasons (Loeb/Sale)
Superman: Peace on Earth (Dini/Ross)
All-Star Superman (Morrison/Quitely)
Kingdom Come (Waid/Ross)
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (Alan Moore)
Action Comics #775 (Joe Kelly)
...maybe even:
Birthright (Waid/Yu)
Superman & the Legion of Super-Heroes (Johns/Frank)

I like it more than the Routh version and I love the fact that the 'S' is center stage again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the 'S' in the previous costume pretty small?
Not perfect, but really, what is? I had my problems with the Reeve one also.
agreed
the texture ugh. The colours of his get up are essential to the character, ESSENTIAL.
other than that I think he looks good, intense, deadly etc, doesnt look lithe like Routh did.
But Reeve IS Superman. Much as I think Adam West IS Batman.
You are not alone, I think like you, this first image is so horrible.
I've wanted to see them just adapt Birthright for a long time, maybe mix in aspects of All-Star. I doubt All-Star would work for a first time reboot film, thought I do love it.
Did anyone else absolutely hate the Death of Superman set? I felt like it was one long fight scene, with no character depth and Doomsday didn't even receive a real origin until later.
I hate it myself. These patterns that are used on every suit just visually kill everything for me from Spider-Man's costume made from basketballs to the new Star Trek uniforms. Superman should be bright and fun. The Chris Reeve suit was dead on perfect like the Curt Swan comics at the time and you'll never beat Chris Reeve's sincerity in the role.
We owe all this current darker, realistic garbage due to The Christopher Nolan Effect, which is now in full swing. The new Spider-Man looks darker and WB wants the Green Lantern sequel to be "edgier and darker". Oh joy...
I agree and disagree with everything that's been said. Personally, I like the new textures on all of the recent suits. It makes sense. Why would someone wear some thin circus looking spandex? It just looks cheesy and does not translate on screen. I won't even talk about the 'Adam West' is Batman thing ;-)
I just hope it's a good villain and not another Luthor story. Villains make the movie and I'm tired of Luthor being in EVERY Supes movie. Green Goblin and Joker aren't in every one of their respective franchise movies. Let's finally get the Doomsday movie that we deserve, or Darkseid!
Does anyone know if the villain has ben leaked yet?
See that's the Problem. Costumes ARE NOT SPANDEX. in order to make these costumes, yo have to understand Comic Art. It's a Visual medium, so the costumes "appears" skin tight because when drawing characters the physique and posing are essential in conveying emotion, mood, and the scene in general. Costumes shouldn't "change" but a costume designer should look at these and see that they are the template, or Pattern to the outfit. I have no problem with them "tweaking" the texture, or the the "fit" but I have to agree that this look doesn't do the costume justice. The "lizard Skin' look is great for some characters, but not ALL of them.....( same goes with EVERYONE fighting like a fukin wire driven Ninja....) seriously,..think outside the Box, use some imagination while still staying true to the character. The latest Spider-Man is a PRIME example of someone trying to out think the room and ruining a costume. DON'T change the core....change the tones maybe, texture,..But right now the Amazing Spider-Man looks like he's about to run the Down Hill slalom for Nike. just ridiculously stupid, flashy, and unnecessary.
-Also Peter Parker isn't Twilight, Brooding, teen angst, quiet but mysterious person......so right there that movie fails.
I understad comic art but if Wolverine wears his bright yellow costume or if Daredevil runs around in his red costume you take the risk of looking like a Power Ranger! I'm a huge X-Men fan and love the early 90's Jim Lee and Andy Kubert stuff, but those costumes would look laughable on the big screen. In the comic pages they were golden though. Different mediums demand different styles.
The movie was crap, but the Daredevil costume worked, I thought overall; material and color tone.
Wolverine's yellow costume always looked dumb to me... but his Brown&Orange would look awesome on the screen, if done witht the right materials and color tones.
I think, atleast. I can see it in my mind, and its working pretty well.
:)
Its all about doing it right and finding that sweet spot. Spider-Man wears pajamas for crying out loud... and they made his costume work (for the most part), and still staying "true" to the comic version. They can all work on the screen, with the right, capable hands.
I hear ya Jim and I agree with ya on the Daredevil comment. I thought the suit looked really good.
i can honestly see Wolverine in his Yellow costume. It all depends on the material, fit, and what shade you go with on the color palette. Like I've said before and I will always stand by it...costumes can easily work in film, you just have to "see" it and stop seeing them as bright colored spandex...( actually, now that imagine it,... Wolverine would look SWEET in his yellow outfit). Same with Cyclops,..just basically take a "frogman" wet suit ( with the skull cap and all) and that's your jumping off point. They CAN work. people just have to actually be creative "see" the world.
-stop seeing them as masquerade ball costumes, and start seeing them as Uniforms.
YES!
He should read "IT'S SUPERMAN!" by Tom Dehaven.
The Watcher... your comment is laughably idiotic. I got tired to having to explain to wimpy dorks, is here's the short version...
Everyone knows the man's voice, even those who haven't met this "man" (character) can hear recordings. As Batman, the also that to be as intimidatig as possible, to do those who comment a out Batman only know the cheesy 60s tv version?
Lastly, anyone who that actually played a REAL sport can tell the that a rib injury yields labored breathing.
To, kiddos & fangirls, lesson over!
...goddamn fucking autofill...
N-e-way, this costume is... to. Fitting to Snyder's world, despite "off" for Superman. Darker, like the character is not.
Daredevil didn' t suck, was far better than a lot out there like Elektra, Wolverine, Xmen & Spiderman 3, ETC.
Alright, ladies & gents (& kiddos! ;D), take care!
