I've seen ALIENS well over 100 times (over 200?)... its my favorite movie... well I was watching the blu ray the other night and noticed something I don't think I ever noticed before... when the marines enter the Hive, behind Hudson is a colonist cocooned to the rafter.
Did I never notice that before?? Is it the clarity of the blu ray what allows me to finally see what it is?? Or did I notic before, but my brain is getting old and forgetful (and lets face it, has had its fair share of abuse over the years)??

Good spot, Jim! I've never seen it on Blu-ray (or anything else for that matter) so haven't seen that colonist hung up there.
But, and this is controversial, if you had to pick either Alien or Aliens, which one would it be? I'd go for Alien as it seems as though it hasn't aged, whereas Aliens, although amazing, is definitely of the 80s.

Fully agree, Tim. The music, fashion, and films were brilliant. Alien just feels timeless for me.
Not to brag, but I'm pretty sure I've noticed before. I also love pointing out when Lance Henriksen's body shows up for a second when Bishop reaches out to catch Newt while the airlock is open, while Bishop is a milky half-android mess. I'm still surprised they haven't covered that with some quick cgi, but in a way I'm also proud that they haven't.
One moment that I noticed on the BluRay that I never spotted before was in the opening sequence where the Salvage robot cutting it's way into Ripley's shuttle. If you look at the bottom of the hatch, you can see the Harpoon gun that Ripley used to blast the Alien out of the shuttle still jammed and upright.
It's attention to detail like that when I realized that James Cameron really does give a crap about what he is doing and really wants this film to be a worthy follow-up to the original. Now compare the visual continuity between ALIENS and ALIEN3 where every... single... detail... on the Sulaco is completely different from film to film. No one cared about what the previous film looked like and no one cared about how impossible it was that somehow the Queen was able to stand on her head and lay an egg in the corner of a ceiling without an egg sack all while trying to find Newt at the same time. And Phil....

A lot of Blu-Ray is like this. I noticed stuff in the (long awaited) Blu-Ray release of Hardware that I never saw before. And the Road Warrior, man, so many blurry details now in perfect 1080p focus.

To be honest, until I had seen it on BD, I had never noticed Vasquez's presumably gang-related tattoo, the teardrop at the corner of one of her eyes. It is without a doubt my favourite film, and have seen it countless times, including in the cinema, but I had just never seen the tattoo before, and I hope this was just because of the poorer quality of the other copies I have seen.
On a slightly related note, the gas that Vasquez suggests using against the xenomorphs is mentioned by Quarritch in Avatar, who orders it's use against the Na'vi, although it appears to merely be CS gas instead of it's more lethal Aliens counterpart.
I had a real high five moment with myself when I noticed that. That's not a euphemism, either.
