Don't know the guy, so I can't comment on his niceness, but his art always seemed odd with the pockets and weird leg straps and all. I remember when the commercial debuted and I thought he was a made up artist, just an actor playing a pretentious artist...only later in college did I see one of his comics.
I enjoyed his early work on New Mutants. It felt fresh and energetic. Over the years, its evolved into something less appealing for me. It looks like he stopped trying to advance forward as an artist. I've met Rob a couple of times over the years - he's always been very nice, professional and down-to-earth. Personally I think he gets shat upon way too much & singled out. Atleast with Liefeld, you know what you're getting and its a distinct style - you know instantly when you're looking at a Liefeld drawing! I still appreciate having him put out books.... even though I don't buy them myself. He's the ultimate fanboy who got hired by the Big Two! He's one of us, man! :)

No formal art training? Knock me over with a feather.
Personally I'm a big fan, I love his art. Rob's a really nice guy too.
