THE HOBBIT ?

Rumors have been going around for the last couple of weeks, but I didn't want to post anything until I heard something more solid, which Variety has done today: MGM is planning on making THE HOBBIT. Not only do they want Peter Jackson to helm it (duh) but they are considering breaking it into 2 films. Interesting.... Perhaps this could be his chance to make up for Kong.

Peter Jackson actually started production on this for a few weeks before it eventually became 'Lord of the Rings' When his late 90's version of 'King Kong' got pulled by Universal he started work on 'The Hobbit'. A mate of mine was at WETA at the time and he said everybody was exited to think they were going to be working on 'The Hobbit' but after a few weeks Jackson had to make the announcement that they were stopping production... but moving onto 'Lord of the Rings' He's since gone back and filmed the aborted King Kong project and now he's going back to the Hobbit,though I hear Jackson knows nothing of any deal etc...

hey,..you edit a good hour out of Kong (for starters pretty much everything before they get to skull island,..and then about half of skull island itself...),..and it's a good movie,..I rather enjoyed it....

Jim's KONG Edit:

* Remove first hour completely, up until they hit Skull Island.

* Trim 2nd hour (Cut in half: Bug scene, Dino Stampede, most human talking scenes; "Run, Jimmy! Ya gotta Run, Jimmy!" ugh).

* Trim 3rd hour 50-66%

Then its watchable.

The new DVD of King Kong has 15 minutes of footage added back to the movie and another 40 minutes of deleted scenes to view on another disc ! A 90 minute movie like the 1933 King Kong would have been fine as a remake at around Raiders of ther Lost Ark type length !
