TELEMUNDO ROCKS

Surfing through the channels the other night I came across some awesome drama (soap?) on TELEMUNDO. I don't know what this dude's deal is, but he was very angry and yes this is for real. I took some quick snapshots to share.

GREEN LANTERN MOVIE COSTUME

There it is. I don't hate it. But still wonder why Hollywood must always change the costume. Just make the fucking comic costume. The work is already done for you. Anyway, this doesn't look terrible and stays pretty close to the core of Hal's costume (waist-up) and they haven't mucked with the GL logo. After looking at it for a few minutes its growing on me... it could have been much much worse. Maybe seeing this after yesterday's awful THOR costume reveals contributes to my higher opinion.

What bugs me the most is the GL casting. Ryan Reynolds is simply WRONG for the part of HAL JORDAN. Reynolds was born to play 2 comic roles: DEADPOOL and WALLY WEST FLASH. Reynolds' strengths are humor and one liners. Hal Jordan has none of those qualities. Looking at that pic above, he makes a better KYLE RAYNER than Hal. Oh well.

Go [re]watch THE RIGHT STUFF.... Sam Shepard as CHUCK YEAGER... THAT's fucking Hal Jordan, baby!

NEW IRON MAIDEN SONGS

Here's IRON MAIDEN's new video "THE FINAL FRONTIER", the title track of their upcoming new album (Aug 16, 2010 release).

And here's the previous 1st Track Release "EL DORADO":

I'm a HUGE Loyal Maiden Fan... but I'm not feeling these 2 songs. I'll definitely pick up the new album and give several listenings... but so far I'm getting "Fear of the Dark" and "No Prayer For The Dying" vibes (which are bad... very very bad). Maybe not as bad... but old hurtful memories & fears do arise.

(although the songs are starting to grow on me a bit....)

and while I'm here crying & bitching... the new album ART may very well be the worst of their discography:They haven't had a killer album cover since 1988's "Seventh Son of A Seventh Son" in the heyday of Derek Riggs' career.
Their last 3 albums with the Return of Bruce were pretty good... with that last one, "A Matter of Life & Death" being absolutely amazing.

This entire post, while negative, is done out of pure LOVE. Iron Maiden is the Best Metal Band in the Universe.

SIDESHOW RESURRECTION ALIEN STATUE

I really dislike the RESURRECTION Alien design.

It's as if it emerged from an Octopus.
Or a Tree. or Pumpkinhead.
An Octo-Pumpkintee.

Its the only reason why I did this post...
so I could say I dislike it.

But if you like it (slap!) you can buy this statue HERE for $265

MOVIE REVIEW: PREDATORS

Hahaha, ok... so I caught a free screening of PREDATORS this weekend. I've been having some fun with the movie on JimSmash the past year, poking fun at various aspects; Rodriguez, Pred-Dogs, etc. I went into the film with low-expectations yet with a wide-open mind.

The film is full of plot holes, cliches and some unintentional laughs. One reviewer called the film "An Ultimate Fan Film" and I can see why, specifically with elements lifted straight from the original PREDATOR and even ALIENS; dialogue, music, plot twists, "moments" etc.

With that said, I actually really enjoyed this movie! It's action packed and full of kickass moments & even well-placed intentional laughs. The movie kicks off in overdrive and continues throughout without a dull moment. The Predators look great (scary once again) and their Creature FX are almost on par with Stan Winston's Predator work. The United Colors of Benetton Cliche Cast works well, existing on that razor edge of Comic Book Cliche and Hollywood Fun. At times I found myself wanting some of these horrible people survive... and cheered outloud when those I didn't want to survive, didn't. Alice Braga makes an impression (although you'll spend a good time of the film wanting to get her hair out of her face) and Adrien Brody is an interesting Batman.

While flawed and....lacking..., I found it better than PREDATOR 2 and a fitting "PREDATOR 3". Thumbs up!

*I'd like to see it again to determine if my initial opinion holds.
