A VERY TWISTED CHRISTMAS !

"What do youuu wanna doo with yor life?!!"
"I WANNA ROCK!! (ROCK!)"
---
Oh man! I saw TWISTED SISTER last night at the House of Blues on Sunset! It was
"A VERY TWISTED CHRISTMAS" where the band played songs from their new CHRISTMAS album! Yes, you read that right, a Christmas album by Twisted Sister; classic XMas songs done in their twisted fashion. It was A LOT of fun and actually put me into the Holiday Spirit! This was the first time the band has been together on stage since 1986! Dee came out in a Santa costume, but at the 2nd song changed into the classic "Stay Hungry" outfit we all know and love. They alternated between xmas tunes and their classic songs.

The show was great, I had a blast
, and I'm actually going to go buy their XMas album. Seriously, its fun and a perfect cd to pop in the day after Thanksgiving to start getting in the mood!

Supposedly, TS put the album together for fun and to officially kill Twisted Sister; go out in style instead of their extremely ugly breakup in 1986. But instead, the cd flies off the shelves, they get a gig at HoB and a new album contract! hahahaha! So look for a new album soon... they played their first (and only) new song and it rocked! Eat it, Tipper Gore. The Sister is back!!!!

OH! And catch TWISTED SISTER TONIGHT on The Tonight Show!! SURREAL!!!! (again, eat it and gag, Tipper Gore!!)

IMPERIAL ROSE PARADE

This year's Rose Parade has an extra dork factor involved. George Lucas is the Grand Marshal and he invited the fan club "501st Legion" (made up of dorky fans worldwide) to accompany him in the parade.... dressed as Stormtroopers. The club has 3,000 members who appear at fundraisers and charitalble events and 200 Stormtroopers will be marching behind Lucas alongside 2 Star Wars themed floats. One float will be the "Endor" float with Ewoks (sigh) and the other will be the "Naboo" float with 3 hotties dressed as Padme and 2 Jedis. Makes total sense because those are the 2 planets fans want to see in a Star Wars parade, right? Jesus, George! Are you truly THAT removed from your fans? Anyway, check out the parade if you're awake and your hangover isn't too torturous.

PAULY SHORE VS REDNECK

Yes, I like Pauly Shore! I admit it. His early standup and ENCINO MAN rule! So I feel for the Weasle... fucking Rednecks.

*thanks, Jason!

GREEN LANTERN CREATOR PASSES AWAY

Another Comic Book Legend passing.... MARTIN NODELL passed away at age 91. Nodell is best known for creating the first GREEN LANTERN, Alan Scott. He was also part of the advertising group that created the Pillsbury Doughboy.

I was fortunate enough to meet him at Comicon a couple years ago and he was awesome; super friendly and a love of the medium and fans. He signed a Green Lantern ring for me!

Rest in Peace, Martin. And thank you for all your many awesome contributions to Comics that are still being used and enjoyed today!

TMNT TRAILER #2

TMNT Movie Trailer #2:

For TMNT, it looks fun!
Maybe someday they'll make an accurate adaptation of the black & white comic back in its early days as an underground comic!

ALIEN GAMES ! !

Awesome! Sega and Fox have teamed up to make a SERIES of video games based on the ALIEN movies!! Woo Hoo!!!!! "The company will develop multiple next-generation and PC video games set in the ALIEN universe, including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game." In addition, apparently Sega is talking to some of the actors from the films (like Sigourney and Lance Henriksen) to do some voice work for the games! The "story" will not follow the storylines in the films but will provide new experiences based on the history of the series. Unfortunately, the first game won't be out until 2008.

QUICK MOVIE REVIEW: APOCALYPTO

We saw APOCALYPTO this weekend. Overall, I really enjoyed it and it was probably one of the best movies I've seen this year. However, watching the absolute brutality humans are capable of inflicting on one another was tough at times.... a good 45min stretch felt like watching a mass snuff film at one point. Truly disturbing. There were also some odd camera work choices Mel did that totally pulled me from the film and you could almost hear the record scratch-screech as it ruins the moment. Still can't figure out why hed made those poor camera choices. The last act, while good, had problems and requires the audience to put forth some extra effort of suspension of disbelief. It's not difficult, but necessary. And the very very ending pissed me off to no degree. While I understand why the director did it, it still ruined the movie for me. I think 99.9% of everyone else will have no problem with it, but for me, ugggghhhhh.

While I had those negative issues with it, they were slight. The filmmaking overall kickass and brings you fully into the world the story takes place within. The cast is stellar and I found myself throughout the film just staring at them, watching them do whatever, whether it was a moment of action or complete stillness. I really enjoyed seeing the Mayan cultures "come to life" on screen in a non-discovery channel manner. The blend of "reality" and "myth" was also really neat. And kudos to the costuming folks - you have my vote come Oscars time!!

So, in the end, I loved the movie. But if you're a bit faint-of-heart regarding violence, be prepared - its brutal at times... moreso the inhumaneness than actual "screen violence", if that makes sense. There is gore, but I didn't think it was over-the-top wretching (although there is one scene in the beginning that may make all the guys squiurm & gag). While I had some minor issues, this was one of the better films I saw this year and I hope more films like this are made. Thank you, Mr Gibson.

OVERALL RATING: A-

NEWT ! ! ! !

"Newt. My name's 'Newt'.
Nobody calls me 'Rebecca'... except my brother...."
-----
Carrie "Newt" Henn was at the ALIENS screening friday night! She was in the audience with her husband (she's not an actor... did ALIENS and went back to normal life). I ran into her on the way out. It was weird seeing her as a 30yr old, haha. Anyway, she was a total sport when I asked her if I could be a total geek and bug her for an autograph. She signed the program they gave out - check it out!

There's only 3 more weekends before XMas, so start renting and watching!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICK BAKER!

I just saw on Andrew's blog that today is RICK BAKER'S birthday!
As Andrew put it:
Make-up FX genius Rick Baker, 56 years old today. In a career going back to the early 1970's Baker has produced some of the most memorable Make-up FX of his generation. In 1971 he was paid just $1000 to create the suit for Octoman and in 1981 he was the very first recipient of the Oscar for Best Make-Up for An American Werewolf in London when the category was first introduced.
So in honor of Rick's birthday, I give you
the classic Werewolf transformation scene:

SMALLVILLE JUSTICE LEAGUE

At the end of last night's Smallville, the CW showed a glimpse of the upcoming episode "Justice" where Clark teams up with other superheroes; ie "the Justice Leauge". Man, just thinking about it makes me giddy!
From L-to-R: Flash, Green Arrow, Clark, Aquaman and Cyborg!

APOCALYPTO hits theaters this weekend!
I, for one, cannot freaking wait!!!! Ancient Mayan story spoken in original dialect with subtitles and no European characters? I've been waiting for a [American] film like this my entire life! I know I'm setting myself up, but I'm hoping this gets the "JimSmash Best Film of 2006." We'll see soon!
