Pet Peeve Time: In the concept art for Neil Blomkamp's upcoming 'ALIENS' sequel, which pretends Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection never happened, we see an acid scarred Hicks. Sweet. I geeked out hard on that when Dark Horse did their kickass Aliens sequel in '87/'88. The acid scarring adds to the awesome factor of Hicks!
What kills me is in the Blomkamp's concept art, his entire left side of his face is melted. In 'Aliens', Hicks is sprayed only around his left eye, forehead and temple. His cheek is mostly fine (mostly), as you can see when he and Ripley exit the elevator and when he's bandaged up.
I realize its just concept art, but still... make me believe you've seen the film more than once.

It's a bit of a creative license to be sure, but it's not the first time it's happened to the series. Who knows? Maybe they'll work that bit of detail into the film by saying that the acid, even after it's melting stages have passed, still leaves some of decaying properties.
If you want to truly get geeky about it, and I have on this exact subject, if a small spurt of the alien blood can burn through Nostromo metal flooring, surely when Hicks gets splashed by a lot more it would have burned right through his skull? An argument could be made that one's from a face hugger and the other's from a fully grown alien so maybe their acidity levels are different, but still...
Plus I've just finished Alien: Archive so fully xenomorphed out of my mind. Amazing new unseen pictures but no indicators of what they are or the small stories behind them.
Maybe Hicks got back to Earth and became obsessed with fixing his scars, ultimately becoming more of a victim to plastic surgery than to the the initial alien attack that caused it.
Gahhh, not to sound like a hater here, as I am ALL FOR "fixing" the Aliens filmography with a proper Aliens sequel ala the Dark Horse comics, however I have my doubts about it given Blomkamp will be at the helm. I think he is great at special effects, but his movies as a whole just kinda fall short for me. District 9 had some memorable scenes mostly thanks to Sharlto Copley (mostly), but Elysium was just plain bad. I have yet to see Chappie but I haven't heard anyone say anything nice about it. That said, I really WANT to like his movies. I really do. Sadly, I can't think of a director who could actually do an Aliens sequel justice, aside from James Cameron who is well past this stage in his career anyhow.
