BAD BRAINS have announced a new album featuring previously unreleased recordings of some of the band’s earliest live performances, pre-dating their 1982 self-titled debut. “Live at the Bayou” captures a snapshot of Bad Brains’ formative years, with live sets recorded in 1980 and 1981 at The Bayou in Washington, D.C., tracked between the band being unofficially “banned in DC” and relocating to New York City.
The recordings were transferred from the original tapes and mastered by legendary producer Don Zientara, known for his work with Minor Threat, Fugazi, and many others.
The album also includes a booklet with liner notes by Washington Post critic Chris Richards and testimonials from Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, Jello Biafra, Vernon Reid, and John Joseph, along with previously unseen photographs and ephemera.
Bassist Darryl Jenifer says, “When I first heard Live at the Bayou I was instantly thrown back in time, I could feel every reflex in my playing, I can hear every struggle, and I instantly relived the moments, the breaks, the riffs. I could hear the PMA and dedication of THE BAD BRAINS.”
“Live at the Bayou” will be released as a 2xLP and 2xCD on Record Store Day Black Friday 2025 (November 28) through Time Traveler Recordings.
