The director had this to say about the story in a brief statement:
"I wanted to tell a linear story–a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes. In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed."
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.
Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

OH HELL YES! This can't come out fast enough!
I have mixed feelings about this. I am a HUGE Mad Max fan. I even went through the trouble of importing an Australian Ford Falcon with plans to build a replica (this turned out badly, but that is another story). Anyway, from what I understand, this movie is going to take place between Mad Max and The Road Warrior (MM2), so it is a prequel of sorts, meant to pay homage to the original character of Max and backdrop...I think Tom Hardy is great, but I still have mixed feelings. I personally think they should have made a MM4, and ONLY if Mel returned to play an elderly Max, with an altogether different story and new characters, keeping Mad Max as simply a "figure" of the story but weaving something new around him...we'll see.
