This is an excerpt from THOR #601. I am no longer going to buy Thor. I grow tired of Marvel writing all their characters like 13 yr old teenie-boppers. Current Marvel makes Jimmy sad.
maybe the editor said, "what's winkle?" and the writer said, "You're kidding me... look it up on wiki" and the editor said, "Hey, we should put that in... it'd make Dr Doom so real" (except not really)
Doom should know the taxonomic names for everything, including winkles.
I've been following FF lately to get up to Doom's 'master' arriving and I'm a bit dissapointed. It makes mention of Dark Avengers but unlike there were Doom is plotting against the Cabal and used a spell to send Morgana Le Fay back 1 million years, instead he comes across as a toady sucking up to his 'master' who then proceeds to shoot Doom.
I've been enjoying JMS' Thor up to this point.... although nothing's really happened in 12+ issues.... but still a fun read and probably the best Thor's been post-WaltSimonson back in the 80s.... this last issue... that Doom dialogue.... it felt like Bendis writing it.
jim: i think that JMS is trying to reset the charecter and its world, and that does take a while. but, its still fun, isnt it? :) thor #600 is the begining of the real action.
I was enjoying it... but that DOOM bit really bugs the shit out of me. It's just one of many examples of how current Marvel writers simply do not know the characters they are writing.
JMS' work is great when its not an already established character... like Spider-Man - his run is what made me drop the book.
If people are recommending Thor to me in a year or two, I'll go pick up the backissues or trades. But for now, I'm not supporting the book with my money, especially in these economic times.
that "one line" shows how ignorant JMS's knowledge of the character is.( and I DO think he is a good writer) DOOM is probably one of the smartest characters in the MU.(maybe THE smartest). He's at the VERY LEAST, on the same level as Reed Richards. He fears no one, and bows down to no one. ( the guy took on the Beyonder AFTER he had already stolen Galactus' power, bc "He could not be content knowing someone was more powerful than he"... ) BUT apparently that's no longer the case.....he's just some dude in a cool suit.
beyounder or not, doom knows better then screwing around with gods. maybe he has a secret plan on this one? i dont think its that bad. sure that wiki was shit, but other than that its a great run, and its was a great sceane.
again,..DOOM fears NO oNE,..God or Not.For all intesne purposes, The Beyonder was an Omnipotent bieng (well until some 'brilliant' writer came along and re-coned that, bc, a god like being from another universe was just stupid ya know..(sigh). AND hopping into the WAY BACK machine to Thor's first encounter with Galactus ( issue 167) Thor concedes that he AND Odin are Nothing compared to the awesome power of Galactus ( Mjolnir didn't even phase the Big G ), but that was of course before, once again, some 'brilliant writers' turned Him into some big purple chump who seems to be capable of being subdued by any mid level villain today,,......( once again,...sigh). seriously why is he such a chump now. A Universal force of Nature, cap[able of transmuting elements on a molecular level, bestowing God-like powers to beings, and laying whole planets to waste, without the slightest inkling to the native forces that have gathered against hinm sincethe begining of time? oh wait,..it looks like Beta Ray Bill is going to show him what not...( sigh),...but I digress, DOOM BOWS TO NO ONE,..Not ven Gods....
This is a great example of Marvel mishandling their own characters. Its almost as if they write their dialogue first, then attach it to whoever's in the comic.
anonymous, your comments are both informative, correct and terrifying. lol

that was the only weak moment in all of JMS work on thor.
it totally sucks, but its still a great reading.
Dude, is that for real?

oh man!
its just one line!
i meen, i totally understand you, but if this is the only suckie thing in this run - why not ignoring it?

Ha! Nah, its not just the one line that's making me drop it....
its more like "the last straw" of a series of many complaints with Marvel's current handling of their characters.
Come on guys, give me SOME credit!
:)
