SCI-FI SPINOFFS SOMEONE ELSE WANTS TO SEE

From SciFi Wire's "5 Sci-Fi Spin-Offs We Want to See"

Click HERE to see the post.

While seeing the Colonists of Hadley's Hope get wasted by Aliens is a delicious tempation, I'd rather just let the franchise die. Plus, its better NOT knowing/seeing what happened and let your imagination fill in the scary blanks.... you hear me Ridely "Alien Prequel" Scott?

Ok, if this was 18 years ago, I'd love to see an EXCELSIOR spinoff MINI-SERIES/SPECIAL with Takai in the captain's chair. When he flies in ala Han Solo in Star Trek VI, I got goosebumps. What?? Man, screw you- It was awesome.

Please do not make anymore Star Wars movies. It's just a new general rule I have after Lucas destroyed the franchise with the Special Editions and Prequel Abominations.

first of all; the new Star Trek SUCKED. it may have been "cool" for a bunch of dorks to see a good cast WASTED by being line-recyclers, but it is common knowledge that dorks have about the same "taste" as the 2 girls w/ the 1 cup. it's, LITERALLY, crappy. sorry to bring that up, but it provides a great example. secondly; Star Wars is ALWAYS cool (the EU proves that!) and the prequels are not as bad as some think. once again; look at the "taste" of the dweebs who dislike the prequels. if you dog on the SW prequels and think the "new" ST movie was "genius", then you are just a moron. period. the 9-book series titled "Legacy of the Force" has some VERY cool things in it; primarily Han & Leia's son turning to the dark side for interesting motives, delving into the Mandalorian culture, and the war w/ the Correlian people.

what they should REALLY do is make at least one movie about Darth Bane. it would be very much removed from the SW that we all know (as good as it is, and has been, it's time to branch OUT for a fresh film) and provide some very cool & hardcore backstory as the material is pretty intense and dark

why do the Clone Wars suck? because some Anime nerd screwed it all up. i don't care what a million little girls say, Anime SUCKS. it is a step DOWN in cartooning. if the CWs didn't have the Anime influence, it probably would've been better.

and, yes; we all know Jar Jar wasn't the best character in SW, but who is to say that he & his species are really any different from the Ewoks? ...it was only put in to lighten up the story for comedic effect & for the kids to dig on; which yielded success in both. reading anymore into it than that is a waste of time.

it IS your blog, so you can be as dorky as you want; but to talk up the LAME that is Star Trek and dog on Star Wars at just about every chance is beyond dorky and bordering on just plain tasteless.

you know i'm just busting your balls, Jim; for the most part, you've got some pretty cool things going on. we gave the new Star Trek a try, but it was TERRIBLY lacking; and the more people talk it up the less we like it. really. it was completely overrated. ...TALK ABOUT PLOT HOLES! ;-p "don't THINK, just look at the pretty cast!" LOL

...so; in conclusion to my thesis (lol)...

you're pretty cool; when you aren't talking up the overrated snore that is Star Trek & trying to spit at Star Wars. even the lamest of Star Wars is cooler; we'd take Jar Jar over Spock any day of the week.

...glad there's OTHER options than just Jar Jar, but you get my point. lol

sorry, the pre-quels were a pile of shit. I , and a GOOD friend (u know who u are ) have watched them extensively while working on a side project to try and find SOME good that is in there. Don't defend them, they are Horrible and an abomination if your under the age of six. ( Go to You tube and see the 9very long) breakdown of that piece of garbage, bc i lack the time to go into detail.)
SECOND, while not a Star Trek fan, and owning only the first TWO movies of the original Franchise. Star Trek ( at least the original ) is brilliantly awesome. Sorry you can't appreciate them for what they are.
AND THIRD,..if your one of those people that like the books ( yes I read the first 3 that 'supposedly came after jedi) then keep them in your own world. they are nothing but over blown fan fiction, that was responsible for the crappy cheese fest, cliche' that has become the Star Wars universe today. they fit into the Star Wars mythos as well as the Holiday special, and the Comic books ( the original, and new )do.
leave them there....

to continue with the fanboy bitching (which it is)....

I've never praised the new Star Trek. Plot holes, weak characterizations and missed opportunities hurt that film. I would have much preferred if it was a different crew.... maybe just Pike and his crew BEFORE "The Menagerie/The Cage". There's some good stuff in the film, and that's what I focus on when I watch it now... but its not what I wanted in a Trek movie nor does it feel like Star Trek - it feels like Trek trying to be like Star Wars. Is it as bad as 2 Girls 1 Cup? No, give me a break. I agree its not good, but nor are the prequels. I can watch the new Trek, but cannot rewatch the prequels (I've tried).

The Prequels suck. While there is some fun moments in them, overall the storytelling is weak and comes across as amateurish and sloppy.

I've never been a big fan of the SW Expanded Universe stuff. There's a handful of decent books, but for the most part most of the books were not to my liking. But, even the bad books would have their moments. Even the Clone Wars cartoon. Its all in how you look at it and what you focus on - you can usually find something to enjoy.

I haven't read the Bane books yet, but they are next on my reading list. Has anyone read the Republic Commando books? Those are on my reading list after the Bane books...

If you're to get into a Star Trek Vs Star Wars debate, of course I'm going to go with Star Wars. But they're apples and oranges in my book. Star Trek is Science-FICTION, whereas Star Wars is Science-FANTASY/ADVENTURE. To pit them together is unnecessary - there's room to enjoy both for different reasons. And both are flawed and not without their horrible moments. The fun part is to geek out on the GOOD stuff.
