Ok, I have to say the Carolina Panthers have the absolute best cheerleaders in the NFL.

Sunday, Carolina Panthers cheerleaders Renee Thomas & Angela Ellen Keathley were allegedly having sex with each other in a bathroom stall at a nightclub
(and were arrested following a run-in with patrons and police).

SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF DISAPPOINTMENT

Watched the latest Simpsons Treehouse of Horror (XVI) last night.
*sigh*

Anyone else feel that these Halloween specials have been ho-hum these past several years? Last night's pretty much sucked.

I remember when the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror specials were freaking BRILLIANT!!! It was an annual event you couldn't wait for and wouldn't dare miss!! ToH I-VI were absolutely classic! There was "Hungry Are The Damned"... "If I Only Had A Brain"... "Dial Z For Zombie"... The Devil & Homer Simpson"... "Dracula"... "The Shinning", etc.
Genius.

But since ToH VII, its gone down hill. Since then, we've had such disappointments as "The Terror of Tiny Toon"... "Night of the Dolphin" (UGH!!!)... "The Right to Keep & Scare Harms"... "In the Belly of the Boss"... and last night's blah: "B.I. Bartificial Intelligence".

What happened to the "Horror" in "Treehouse of Horror"??
Now its lame sci-fi ripoffs at best. The old specials made you feel the Halloween spirit!
You had vampires, witches, ghouls, ghosts, zombies and terror!
You know, HALLOWEEN stuff.

I want the old Treehouse of Horror back, damnit!!!

CELEB SIGHTING: NICK ANDOPOLIS

I normally don't post about celebrity sightings... you tend to see them often and usually pay no mind. However, every once in awhile you'll see someone and you can't help but say "Cool! I just saw so-and-so!"

Today we rubbed elbows with Jason Segel at lunch.

It was like seeing an old friend. hahaha

Today, he suggested that people who graffiti should have their thumbs cut off. On television!!

"In the old days in France, they had beheadings of people who commit heinous crimes" Mayor Oscar Goodman said. "I'm saying maybe you put them on TV and cut off a thumb... that may be the right thing to do." Perhaps this punishment could then be applied to other areas
- such as Strip Clubs.

Yes. Something needs to be done! Las Vegas is such a law abiding city of utopia that this grafitti is really tarnishing the place for good respectable folk.

He also suggested whippings should be brought back for chidlren who get into trouble.

MOVIE RECOMMEND: GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK

Have you ever been in a theater watching a new movie and it suddenly dawns on you that you are witnessing something wonderful transpire before your very eyes? That you have been swept up, as if by a gentle wave, and are riding it with a smile on your face as you watch it move and breath and continue to entertain, educate and impress you at nearly every turn? Those moments are very few and far between, unfortunately. But they do happen from time to time. Well, last night was one of those times, where we watched "Good Night and Good Luck".

The film takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in the 1950's (USA). It chronicles the real-life conflict between tv newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy.
Murrow and staff defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics by McCarthy during his communist witch-hunts.

The film is absolutely gorgeous. I could say see it strictly for the lighting alone, but there's so much more to enjoy than just that.
All the actors are absolutely wonderul, but David Strathairn (Murrow) is spectacular and mesmerizing to watch. Overall, this is some damn fine filmmaking. Just when I'm about to lose faith in the medium,
a film like this (thankfully) comes along and reconfirms my love for it.

You always read about the dark days of the McCarthy Era in school and its painful at times to witness the injustice, blatent abuse of power and scaretactics that terrorized our Nation. I found myself tense with frustration and anger not only at the injustice transpiring in the story, but at how history is repeating itself Today.

A must see! (even though I've now talked it up SO freaking much,
it can now only be a disappointment for those who go see it after reading this - sorry.)
Perhaps I was just in the right mood at the right time... nevertheless, I recommend this movie and it has my vote come Oscar Time.

I give this film 5 lil Jimmys out of 5.

LOBOT PASSES AWAY

John Hollis, who played LOBOT in Empire Strikes Back, passed away October 18 of natural causes.
(He was also in Flash Gordon, ah-ah-ah!)

Lobot was Cloud City's computer liasion officer outfitted with a brain enhancing device which allowed him to contact directly with the city's central computer.
He was also aide to Galactic Pimp Scoundrel Lando Calrissian.

80s SPOTLIGHT: VOYAGERS

Anyone remember the TV show

"VOYAGERS!"?

I know Terra & Maker do, cause we were trying to remember thedarn name last night

(It was "Voyagers!", btw).

It was basically Quantum Leap, but years before (1982-1983). There's a group of Voyagers who help History along, giving it a "push" where/whenever needed. The Voyagers in the series were 2 people: Phineas Bogg (the adult), who was a pirate hundreds of years ago, and 12 yr old Jeffrey Jones.

They used a gold pocket watch like deviced (called an "omni") to time travel - when the light flashes red, somethings wrong with histroy and they must fix it. I'll spare you the details, but basically the kid isn't supposed to be there with him and they are lost traveling through time with no way to get back (they don't have the time travelling book with them)... thankfully, the kid's dad was a history teacher and, of course, he just happened to pick up alot of that knowledge himself, so they do alright.

As a 7-8yr old kid in 1982, the show was pretty good.
I was disappointed when the show didn't come back for a 2nd season.
I was even more distraught when I found out why:
Jon-Erik Hexum (Phineas Bogg) apparently was goofing around with a gun loaded with blanks. He put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger - blanks in it, right? so its "safe".
Nope - the exiting wad of cardboard went through his skull.

MOVIE RECOMMENDATION: THE UP SERIES

This is a great documentary spanning decades. It begins in 1963 where the filmmakers interview several children, all age 7, from various levels of Societal Classes. They ask the children about their hopes for the future, their opinions of the present, and about Life overall. Then every 7 years from then, they return and interview them again. So what we see is how each child moves through life.
So far, there are 6 films so we see them ages 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 (which was filmed in 1998).

The initial premise was "Give me the child until he is 7 and I will show you the man." However, as the series progresses, the film takes on a life of its own and transcends that initial thought (atleast in my opinion). We no longer focus on how similar (or dissimilar) they are as adults compared to their 7yr old counterparts... but instead, look within ourselves and see how quickly Life moves. For me, it really helped me refocus on what's truly important in Life.
Its also very entertaining! I'm sure I'm not doing it proper justice here. Check it out for yourself!!
