OPERATION: ALIENS

** Click on image to enlarge **
It's a little known fact that there was almost a 90s saturday morning cartoon based on ALIENS, entitled "OPERATION: ALIENS". Odd, since the ALIEN series are all rated-R.

Anyway, yep - they made a cartoon but it was never released. Probably because a)It most likely sucked eggs, and b)I would have killed all involved for further destroying the holiest of holy movie series.

I dont think its a foregone conclusion that this would have sucked eggs at all. The reason this series never saw daylight is because Alien 3 was not what Fox wanted.

After the explosion that was Aliens, everyone thought that the next movie would be a sequel to ALIENS, with more action and thrills. Making it perfect for this sort of thing. Also, Aliens was a big movie among teenagers and young adults. A cartoon could have worked.

Yes but THIS cartoon, I think would have sucked. Cartoons if this era were at a weak point (fox xmen for example)...batman animated series the exception...and the entire premise if this cartoon was each episode the marines would go to a new planet and fight new aliens: gorilla alien, snake alien, cheetah alien, crab alien, shark alien etc. I was all for an Aliens cartoon, just not this one. I am still glad it never saw the light if day.

you think the Aliens were gonna talk? i can totally see the Mother Alien with the voice of the plant from "Little Shop of Horrors".

I wouldn't put it past them.

I don't really see the need to slam this Cartoon series. I think it would have been an interesting, childish, bit of fun. I know growing up in the 90s, I would have loved it.

The worry that this would have ruined the franchise is rather baffling to me. Rambo, Robocop, and others had cartoons during the 80s and 90s, and it did little, if any damage to the brand name.

I disagree. The cartoon versions of Rambo & Robocop hurt the franchise for me. They, along with crappy sequels, tarnished the product. The 'Operation: Aliens' cartoon took a great concept and turned it into "Alien/Animal hybrid of the Week", and essentially made it about marines exterminating giant insects. That's not what 'ALIEN' nor 'ALIENS' were about.

Making kids cartoons based off of R-Rated movies is ridiculous to me.

Rambo itself went on to make a very adult 3rd sequel and Robocop has been revisited as an adult medium in the comics and as a recently rebooted movie. No cartoon adaption has ever weighed heavily with corporations as far as where they'll take a series in the movie theater. The line of figures by Kenner which were based on this series didn't sway Fox from making hard R sequels years later in "Predators" and "Prometheus"

I think we're talking about 2 different things here. I'm saying that the cartoons (arguably silly ones) tarnished the franchises for ME as a fan. That's all.
