"The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo [who seemed to be the one who shot first in the original] to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn't. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down." --George Lucas, 2012

I just threw up in my mouth. I am so sick and tired of the man who was once my hero, who changed the course of my life, who inspired me to make movies, is a man who can not do an interview without LYING! That is what he is doing here and every time he says "I always intended..." Jimsmash, please tell me that this post is a joke!
"Twisted by the Dark Side young Lucas has become."
...and FAT!
Yeah, he always intended to have Greedo shoot first. That's why in the original unedited version there's only the one shot sound affect.
And that is also why you will NEVER be able to purchase the original, uncut trilogy on DVD. Ever. Lucas hates everything about them, but he has no problem monkeying around with them, pissing everyone off.
At least we have "Clone Wars"
Isn't he basically saying here that he's a crappy editor and doesn't know how to get his ideas across in a clear fashion?
Maybe he's sore about his ex-wife's Oscar winning editing work on the movie. Anyway, Lucas has a decades-long track record of distorting the truth to fit his own unstable and forever devolving view of what the Star Wars creative process was.
Well, there's also an old interview ( 20th anniversary VHS?) where he says he doesn't understand why fans were so upset when ( ...and the way he did it ) killed Bobba Fett,..bc " he was just supposed to be the guy who caught Han,.. That's all.."
- he's one of those people that has repeated his lies and bullshitted so much, he has started to believe all of the crap he's been shoveling to everyone. He's pretty much convinced himself that " this was his original vision all along.."
Oh, he can f*ck right off.
RedLetterMedia had a brilliant Joke about this. when contfronted with this very scene in its original cut, Lucas screams in horror: "This is not my true vision that I keep changing!".
It's incredible how consistent is Lucas with f*¨king up with his movies.
Even if the original movies are very dear to me, I almost hope he will keep messing around with his movies, because it's just so morbidly fascinating to look at. Like a trainwreck.
(actually I'm sorry that no qualitative print of the original movies will survive...)
