I'm not sure what people want from this ?! We've seen a handful of pictures and people are criticizing the actors, have we seen them act ?! NO ! We're not going to get 100% perfect young clones of the original actors, how would that be possible, hunt around for someone who looks exactly like all of them but find non of them have any acting ability.
We've seen a tiny portion of the set and people are willing to diss the whole movie on that ! People on forums saying 'See I told you it would be crap !' On the strength of a corner of a set they can tell that ?! If you want to see a film set in the OT era then there are plenty of fan films out there doing stuff with replica sets of the original bridge, go watch those instead. I'm going to wait and see what this film is actually like before making up my mind, the internet has bred a generation of people who can sit back and slag what is the hard work of other people, I was party to that who culture once upon a time but now I've grown to dislike it immensely over the last year !!

As long as there's green Martian chicks in it, your Uncle Miggsy's happy. ;)

why do all these actors have big eyes? spock doesn't have big eyes. or kirk... actresses should have big eyes, not actors... dare i say in this day and age? i will - gay.

Andrew, I hear what you're saying and agree. However, I believe most people's gripe is that the new cast looks straight out of a teenie-bopper, polished tv show like "One Tree Hill", "Dawson's Creek" and the like. The original Trek cast felt like real people. These feel like trendy pretty teens of hollywood. very fake and superficial and unfitting for Star Trek.

As an open gay man, let me simply say the new Star Trek - SO GAY!

Is Bryan Singer directing it? ;P

Cool blog, btw!

Both Shatner and Nimoy were 35 when they started Star Trek back in 1966, Quinto(Spock) is 31 and Pine(Kirk) is 28 and this is mean't to be the early days of them in Star Fleet. I think when you look back at any actor in the 60's shows they look older because we seen them as kids from the beginning and to a kid anyone over 30 seems old, now we're adults the new guys seem young, they're certainly younger than me, but Nimoy and Spock never seem to change, I don't look at the Original Series and go , how young is this guy to be a captain of a Starship.

also, people nowadays tend to appear much more youthful, so to compare age appearance to the original cast is tough.

well, if you thought Star Trek was "gay" already,.....now that tag line has even more meaning.

OK, here's something I think Hollywood, and casting agents need to understand. Heterosexual Males look for qualities in thier leading men that they themselves want and admire. Something that fills a void in themselves, Like Leadership, stength, charisma, courage, confidence, ect... They look for some one that long ago would probably have lead them into battle. What They DO NOT want in a leading man is to sleep with them. seriously,...stop it.

Geez.....it might just be the photo shoot

C,mon give it a change, I mean after Nemesis
there can't be a worse Trek movie to date....

I'll wait for more before I start spinning graves...

Gay men can have Leadership, strength, charisma, courage, confidence, etc. Look at John Wayne! Seriously, are you saying that homesexuals lack all of those qualities? That the only quality a gay person has is their sex drive? Please.

And ST: Insurrection is the worst Trek movie ever, with ST: Last Frontier a close 2nd. Unwatchable drivel. At least Nemesis had some cool space visuals.

The real issue here is Hollywood and its "remake" craze. This "new" Star Trek could be an awesome scifi movie. Unfortunately, it will be filled with actors(good or bad)doing impersonations of original characters. This will keep me from seeing this in theaters.

gay or not (whatever) from what I've seen thus far the new Trek looks and feels like network TV. funny since Trek started off as a tv show.

although i already commented with a negative flavour, i still look forward to this - i am 100% attributing this point to eric bana, who is remarkable, unless he is in a movie with the vomit-inducing drew barrymore concerning the vomit-inducing game of poker...

i totally agree with the sentiment introduced that this looks like a TV show (mission impossible III did too [i am not into this abrams fellow - he thinks in 'tv'])....

i think it is funny that a mere few years ago that the chekov actor played a thirteen year old wearing a superman suit in an episode of the awesome 'curb your enthusiasm'...

my comment is very disjointed - sorry about that. i blame my new job of drunken unemployment... it rules though.

I think the "TV Look" is what's been bugging me. And the very youthful cast, but whatever. Nimoy was on the radio a few months back saying something to the effect that Spock (and crew) are like Hamlet in that the Trek Mythos is now bigger than the actors portraying the characters. Like Hamlet, many actors will be portraying Spock, etc in the future. One way of looking at it.

Classic uniforms and what appears to be classic enterprise. They got those 2 right. I'll go see it.

Maybe. :)

The Bridge looks like a Medical Vessel.

It appears that in the movie, the entire crew is assembled and together straight out of Starfleet Academy, and on the Enterprise on its first mission. I guess in this new reboot, Cpt Pike is discarded and forgotten? That's bullshit, I say.

Andrew Glazebrook said...

Bruce Greenwood is playing Christopher Pike !
And how do we know that the bridge we're looking at is Enterprise, could be a Starfleet Academy simulator or any other ship, maybe this is the Kobayashi Maru test !!??

Anonymous said...

Pike's in it? Cool! I wonder if he'll share the same fate as his original series counterpart.

co-producer Damon Lindelof says of that bridge pic that The set you see in the photo is the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and not a training room.

"Kobayashi Maru test"!!!!!!

with all this talk of pike being in this movie, i am now believing that pike is in this movie! bring it on! i am as open as i will ever be!!

I think the only thing that bothered me about the Magazine cover was that Spock looked as if he were emoting...er...emotions. Seeing the image of him grabbing the guy he looks much more serious and I like the ensemble shot with Scotty (Peg) in the background. I'm looking forward to this.

JJ was quoted as saying,.."I'm not making a movie for Star Trek fans, I'm making a movie for movie fans"

- well that just sounds brilliant JJ. Ostricise(sp??)and insult a Loyal fan base that kept the memory of this franchise alive, and through overwhelming demand allowed you the oportunity to make this movie. way to go pal.
can any one say Brian Singer "SUPERMAN"?????

- you can say all you want, that was a movie made for the Lifetime channel, and was a horrible excuse for a Super Man movie. I would put it there slightly above Lee's "HULK". Oh what the hell, at least the HULK had more than one entertaining scene.
