Variety is reporting that WINONA RYDER has been cast as Spock's MOTHER in the new Star Trek movie. Oh, and she's VULCAN, too...
not a human, which totally retcons Spock's character.
"Paramount Pictures and director JJ Abrams have set Ryder to play the Vulcan mother of a young Spock."
It's hard to find a worse choice. She truly is horrible and highly annoying. Dracula and Alien:Resurrection are perfect examples. BAH!
UPDATE: Variety corrected their mistake, which was reporting she will be Vulcan. Spock's mother in the new reimaging movie will be HUMAN. Winona Ryder still sucking remains.

You sure about this Jim?
i read she was playing Amanda Grayson which would make her human and keep in line with the original Spock mother in TOS.
this just keeps getting worse!
Variety described her as a Vulcan. Maybe (hopefully) they were wrong.
