Msnbc reports:
Not even puppets are safe from the recession. This week, the Santa Monica Puppetry Center announced it will be closing. The puppet center, located at 1014 Broadway, will hold its last show on Aug. 16.
"We have lasted this long only because of the extreme patience of the property owner who, along with me, continued to believe that we would find ways to survive the loss of revenue from the drop-off in school shows and private parties,” said puppeteer Steve Meltzer in a statement.
The center is behind in rent to the tune of $14,000 Meltzer told Culture Monster. Meltzer said he will put the center's puppets, which total almost 500, in storage.
So if you live in/near Los Angeles, head over to Santa Monica for one last hurrah!
