ACTION COMICS #1 (VF) SELLS FOR 1-MIL

a) I fucking hate the bullshit CGC shit (which creates a bullshit high priced collector's market)

b) This puppy deserves to be in a MUSEUM, not in some rich chode's house.

c) ... Sure is purrty!!!

I agree, I have gotten in several arguments with vendors and collectors alike on how much of a ridiculous scam CGC is.

example, last year at Comic-con, i was looking for an FF 49. I found, at one vendor, 2 copies. one was in a bag, the other CGC. He and i then proceeded in a spirited debate over CGC grading , ect... so to prove my point, I asked to hold both copies, and the subsiquently inspected both of them ( the CGC as well as i could ). They were of relatively equal condition ( you could nit pick here and there, but over all there was no Major discrepancy ..)

-the bagged copy $150, CGC,..$550.
I then asked him, do you SERIOUSLY believe there is a 400 dollar difference in these issues? he then proceeded to back peddle and start spouting off at " well if you look at this,."...and .."if your a REAL collector, and serious about these issues..",..blah blah blah,...
SAME issue, SAME vendor.....

SAME scam.

-AND as a side note, Golden Apple Comics in LA, had a CGC copy of Uncanny X-Men 199 (featuring Rachel as Phoenix ),..on thier wall that someone was trying to get rid of. The CGC grading was ,..no shit, 90 bucks....I went to the back issue bin, found the same issue for 5 bucks....

I have visions of Jimsmash fighting guys off an evil Spaniard's boat with the Action Comics #1 under his arm yelling - "It belongs in a museum!"

I was misinformed regarding Wizard and CGC.... I looked further into and you are correct Anonymous (whoever you are). Thank you for the info. My opinion of CGC remains the same, though. Post has been edited.

I used to work for a Fortune 500 company that used to send people out to auctions so that they could bid on high value comics. It was a tax dodge in order to turn cash assets into a hard asset. They'd hold onto the thing for about a year and then put them back up on the auction block. They didn't care about the book itself, just its dollar value.

"chode" & "choad" are both acceptable.

Kinda like "theater" & "theatre"
:)
