TERMINATOR FECYS

Just when you think a franchise cannot shit the bed anymore than it has....

via i09, The new Entertainment Weekly reveals some plot synopsis in the upcoming TERMINATOR reboot (sigh) called "Terminator Genisys" (sigh) *SPOILERS*
Sarah Connor isn't the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton's steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991's T2. Rather, the mother of humanity's messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she's been raised by Schwarzenegger's Terminator—an older T-800 she calls "Pops"—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who's great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

"I now know why you cry."

Character Derailment:
When an established character becomes largely different, exhibiting behavior contrary to what has been previously shown. This is not a matter of organic growth. Rather than gradually changing in response to events and experiences, a derailed character will exhibit shockingly unusual behavior that implies malfeasance or incompetence on the part of the writers.

Looks like the filmmakers wanted to make Sarah Connor a bada** and left it at that. Whatever growth she gets will undoubtedly come from the male characters telling her to lighten up. Oh joy.

Listen, its a reboot.
Think Star Trek. They had to give new twists to the characters. And they even put an actor from the old series there. Just like here.

Nobody is taking your franchise away. But they´re going to change stuff.

And remember, Terminator Salvation had everything to go right and ultimately sucked. Sometimes the movie that seems its going to suck (remember the announce of Heath Ledger in Dark Knight, or that picture that was Tom Cruise running in a gooffy looking armor suit from Edge Of Tomorrow) its the movie that makes it right.

Lets wait at least for the trailer, and not being little bitches about some images (because X-Men First Class had also horrible images and posters).

I'm not complaining about the images or the reboot. I'm complaining about the premise that a young Sara Connor is orphaned and then raised by Arnold Terminator who she calls "Pops". I find that absolutely ridiculous and near satire.

Why"

It even makes sense. Think with me: Imagine that Skynet can only pinpoint people in a certain place because of digital documents. So maybe the first time Sarah appears in the files is around her teenage years.
Now, they have the capacity to just send a terminator every year until she dies (which is a problem in the series, of course you can say that time travel is maybe locked to some time locations, maybe one in each decade or something like that...) so she´s preety much doomed to die.
But John Connor decides to intervienne and sends a Terminator even before she is an adult because maybe she told him where she grew or something like that. He sends the terminator and they bond just like the young John Connor bonds with the T-800 in T2.

So you see where you are failing in your judgement of the film right"
You can´t say that the relationship from the second is amazing and just say that the same relationship now sucks just because its around two other characters, with great similarities.

Hey, I´m hoping for something awesome. Maybe we can have some flashbacks portraiting how the relationship grew and was stabilished. Who knows...

(Also, sorry for the english, not my native language.)

Hey Tigas, thanks for chiming in - and your english is great!

With that said... you are assuming I think the Cyborg-Who-Learns-Why-We-Cry was an "amazing" idea. I did not and thought not only was it a silly idea, but it tremendously hurts the film 'T2'. It's one of the reasons why I think 'The Terminator' is a better film. Yes, 'T2' is a super fun ride chock full of awesome moments, but it suffers from big budget Studio gloss and silly ideas.

I still stand by my opinion that this sitcom scenario of old Terminator Arnold playing daddy to a little girl Sarah Connor is ridiculous.

Terminators are cold killing machines. They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they can't be reprogrammed to feel emotion and be daddys.

I miss the good old days when Terminators were something to be feared.

@ Tigest.

The biggest flaw in your argument defending this new " reboot" is precisely why this reboot is a bad idea.

1) The STAR TREK reboot was horrible. It was. Changing a timeline to completely alter a character's personality and core is not good writing/story (see Jeyl's comment )

B) It had no soul and completely disregarded what the Star Trek Mythos is all about . ( It's about exploring, Science, philosophical ideas, the The mystery of the unknown). The 'new' franchise is just a McDonald's Happy meal with a ticket to a theme park inside

Third) Gene's Vision literally inspired today's ( and yesterday's) scientists to do what they do ( cell phones, space technology, communications, travel, everything that we now take for granted in modern society) It inspired people to think forward and set new horizon's for the future of society. It was a project built from Hope...

So please tell me other than being a over the top action/thriller/popcorn munching, non cerebral summer blockbuster,..what does this new Star Trek say?

The Premise for the New Terminator is a result of the Pandora's box that was opened with the TV series. Now,..why not send a Terminator FARTHER BACK,..and even farther to where it's a lame plot device to radically change anything that had some semblance of the original movie and intent. The First Terminator was not a horror move. Not a an action/Thriller. Not a cheesy Sci-Fy. It was a FILM. It was Gritty, It was "real". It dealt with a lot of emotion conflict. with moral themes. love and hope. Sarah Conner was like anyone else. The average person that now had to carry this huge weight of responsibility and hope that was thrust upon her. How people have to dig deep sometimes to persevere and survive when it looks like the world is turning on you.
The "new" terminator that has come to exit is just a typical, sexy, action packed, thrill ride at an amusement Park with no soul or any true semblance, other than name brand, . ( Just Like the new Star Trek )

...and the "new Star Treks" are CRAP!!!!!!!!

"oh, noooooo, the ship's going down, we're all gonna *yaaaaaaawn* diiiiieee".

yeah, and the B&W tv show would like the plot of every other episode back, plz.

"Live long and prosper hands on the glaaaaaaaass". <----ROTFLMAO!!!!

Spock's cameo was arguably the worst in the history of film.

"ummmm, i'm just gonna hide waaaaaay over here so as to not affect the new timeli... oh, wait, huh? you need something? ok, here's my address".

LAAAAAAAAAAAME at its' "best", they were horrible!!!!! the first one was predictable, corny, lame, and overrated. the 2nd one was that x2.

this garbage synopsis looks better already, which is saying a lot.

I can't believe you went back for more and watched the 2nd JJ Trek.

I learned my lesson with the first one and stayed away.
