Very visual, bet it was really great in 3D, and thought about all the hating and disappointment & etc...
First of all, I liked it. It made me go, "Ok, wtf is THAT", and, "I'm not really sure wtf just happened", but it wasn't the most convoluted movie ever. Was it kind of "too much"? Yeah, I can admit that.
Now, as a fan of Sci-Fi, Horror, etc genres, I looked at it from an "Alien fanatics'" POV.
Of course you were dissappointed, just because it had Ridley & Giger attached to it, you immediately wanted some "strictly Alien-focused film". It wasn't that, so you flipped your lids. Were there similarities? Yeah. Enough to satisfy "Alien-hards" (you know, like the Twi-hards, just a bit less lame)? Obviously not, that's why you spend time trashing w/, out of all honesty, some really lame jokes & references.
"Tootsie Engineer"? Really? :-/
So I essentially likened it to this:
A 20-yr-old "strictly horror film fan, w/ his cute little Bieber hair dyed black", who can't appreciate the old-school Halloween & Friday the 13th movies, just because they think it's "stupid".
...just because they're so entrenched into this "the only kind of REAL horror movies are the psychological and/or ones having to do w/ the internet" to be able to STAND BACK and appreciate something else for merely what it is.
I'm not saying Prometheus was the greatest movie I've ever seen, by far, but it entertained me & tripped me out as a "stand-alone Sci-Fi film".
I'm sure many people had the same "this isn't what I like, so therefore it just sucks" attitude in regards to the Aliens Franchise compared to the old Black & White "Classics".
It is what it is and still better than Green Lantern as far as "overall" goes.
For someone who seems to support "alternate opinions", you tend to be a little... "fixated in a small-minded way", Jim. It's your blog, you can erase or post this (idgaf either way, took me no time to type), but it seems a little bit hypocritical.
Sorry if I seemed like a dick right now, but I just heard much more negative than not about this film and was shocked that it didn't suck as bad as you guys thought.
Perhaps I should thank you for lowering my expectations so that it actually DID make me go, "Well, I actually don't think this film was that bad at all"?
In regards to the film, as I have said countless times, as a stand-alone sci-fi film, it is fun (albeit flawed). My complaints with the film are with what it does to the Alien Mythos. 'Prometheus' changed the Space Jockey from "another alien species" to "Human". And changed the xenomorph from "alien species" to "result of scientific mutation". Personally, I do not like these changes. Those are my TWO complaints with the film. If it was a stand-alone film, I would not give a shit. But its not a stand-alone film - its a prequel to 'Alien'.
Please do not lump me in with anyone else who gives their negative opinions on it. My voice is my own and I can only speak for myself.NWe all have our opinions about subjective material like Pop Culture. While I do critique and poke fun at Pop Culture, I never attack anyone for their opinions. If you liked 'Prometheus', I have no problem with that - enjoy and be happy! But do not attack me for my own personal opinions about a movie.
Ummm, I hate prometheus because it's a bad movie - the changes to the Alien mythos are a side issue (unwelcome yes, but they alone didn't make the film crap).

Cheers either way, though!

Loving the fact that Picard #2 is the TNG XXX actor... Giger would probably approve.

I have never said the film was crap. I've complained about the changes to the Mythos and poked fun at some of the sillier moments in the film.
