JimSmash Reader PETE writes in:
Hey Jim! Long time reader, first time writer. First off, love the blog, keep up the good work! Second, I saw the picture of Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and i just don't know... and I'm sure you've seen it by now? So i just wanted to hear that ole' JimSmash opinion on it? Thoughts? -Pete.
Thanks, Pete! Yeah, I've seen the Russell Crowe JOR-EL photos... I'm not quite sure how to properly express my thoughts & opinions with words, so I shall simply create a single image to express them:

Honestly? I don't see it.
In the 60s and 70s, Jor-El, and indeed, most Kryptonians, wore garb similar to the one Superman has on Earth.

In All-Star Superman too, Kryptonians all wore outfits similar to Superman's, and that's a trend that All-Star writer Grant Morrison is continuing in his current run on Action Comics. His Jor-El is wearing a green armored suit similar to the one worn by his son in the Superman comics and Justice League. Action's Man of Steel is still in a proto-Superman phase, but I suspect he'll be armored up soon enough, and I'm fine with that.

This costume does not look even a little like the Superman suit Henry Cavill is wearing. I appreciate that it doesn't look like the hologram suit thing Marlon Brando wore in Superman I, but the "S" is still not enough to make me believe that costume, which should always, I think, be based at least a little on Kryptonian wardrobe styles.
